What are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides contain codes similar to sections your DNA. They are a watery gel made up of short nucleotide sequences.
Where are they made?
They are synthetically aggregated in laboratories with the nucleotides extracted from salmon sperm. This, however has no relation to fish allergies and the treatment has so far proven to be hypoallergenic.
How do they work?
Their primary job is to activate the body’s cells (mostly myofibroblasts aka skin cells) and therefore increase collagen production, hyaluronic acid, elastin, deep fat deposition, and new vessel formation. They also have an anti-inflammatory effect. This method encourages the generation of desirable organic end-products. This is distinct from many injectable modalities in aesthetics that deliver the end-product into your body. It is administered via injection.
Who can this help?
People with under eye hollows, dark circles, general poor skin quality, thin skin, lax skin or rosacea can all benefit from this treatment. For some, this treatment can work well in combination with Hyaluronic Acid fillers.
How long does it take to work?
If used in the under eye area there is initial swelling, which should not be confused for results. Because this treatment stimulates your own body to repair itself, best results are typically seen 60 days after the initial treatment.
How long does it last?
Results typically last 6-9 months, but may be longer or shorter in certain individuals.
What are the downsides?
Polynucleotides avoid the major risks that are associated with fillers - overfilling and direct vascular occlusion. However, because it is a biostimulator (stimulates your own cells) it means that results can vary more widely. For most, the natural, reduced-risk option is appealing, but it does come with a commitment to a more extensive treatment protocol. This usually means an initial 3-4 visits over a period of 8-16 weeks. This transitions to once every 6-9 months for maintenance. Following each under eye treatment, you can expect to be considerably swollen for 3-5 days. This is not usually the case with facial or body treatments.
Is there anything that complicates treatment?
If you are diabetic or consume a lot of caffeine it can inhibit the impact of the treatment and so you may need more than the recommended sessions.
If you are undergoing under eye treatment then we suggest bringing a pair of sunglasses so you can conceal any initial swelling or bruising.
